Built and designed by Peter Biffin in Australia - - the Tarhu is a new instrument incorporating aspects of existing bowed strings such as the Cretan Lyra and the Turkish Kemenche. Its exciting rich sound makes it suitable for a wide variety of styles.
The Tarhu can be heard in performances of the group Nectarion around the Westcountry.
A Tarhu Concerto with orchestra is planned for next summer.
